Hi, I’m Claire
I’m a the founder of Mission Nutrition, a TV presenter, professional speaker, wellbeing educator and a published author. I completed my BSc (Hons) in Dietetics in 2004, work as a NZ Registered Nutritionist and also have a diploma in Positive Psychology.
Outside of my work life, you’ll find me running around after my two young boys, being creative in the kitchen (often making a mess!) and listening to podcasts on nutrition, psychology and neuroscience. I love adventuring outdoors, be it bush walking, biking, walking, kayaking, camping or hitting the slopes. Nothing feels better than being in nature!
My story
I’ve made it my mission to inspire others to get the most out of their lives by improving their understanding of how food, sleep, exercise, and the mind have a part to play in their own physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
I spent over half my lifetime fighting with food and battling my own thoughts. From childhood diets to a battle with disordered eating, depression that crossed from my teen years into adulthood, and later post-natal anxiety.
I embarked on a four-year full-time degree in nutrition and dietetics in the hope that if I learnt everything about food, I'd find the answer to my problems, but I didn't. That’s because knowledge alone doesn’t create change.
It was only years later when I finally figured out what was driving my eating issues and mental health challenges that I was able to heal my relationship with food and myself, that I was finally able to get in a better headspace and free myself from the trauma.
So, while my expertise has its foundations in a degree in Dietetics from Leeds Met University and a qualification as a fitness instructor, my knowledge comes from years of learning about behaviour and beliefs when it comes to changing people’s unhelpful food habits.
Originally from the UK, I grew up in a family of health professionals: my dad a doctor, mum a nurse, and one of my brothers trained both as a pharmacist and a doctor and is now an anaesthetist. Health really is in my blood.
I moved to New Zealand in 2005 and set up my private practice, Mission Nutrition, from my living room. It’s grown to a network of amazing dietitians and nutritionists throughout the country.
Through my work as a professional speaker, author, nutritionist, and advisor in the media - my goal is to help make it easy for people to create healthy, happy and balanced lives.
With no-nonsense advice I take away the confusion around food, help you understand what your body needs, and offer realistic food and lifestyle choices that can help to support you long-term!
In 2022 I completed further study with a diploma in positive psychology, and I draw on my experience across nutrition, sleep, fitness and wellness to help others create the change they need in their lives, too.
While there is no quick fix, I’ve learnt first-hand the importance of creating balance, finding joy and prioritising wellness for a life well-lived. Now, it's a privilege to inspire others to do the same!
