Guilt is the thief of life

Guilt is the thief of life

There are so many things that frustrate me about the everyday language that is used around food… guilt being a word that’s right up there with one of the worst.

Guilt is destructive. It rarely drive us to eat better or be better, instead it makes us feel bad about ourselves and more often than not, more likely to repeat the unhelpful behaviours that made us feel ‘guilty’ in the first place.

If you drank more than you planned, ate more than you needed or made a choice that didn’t make you feel good, don’t make yourself feel worse by judging yourself and adding guilt, and even worse, shame to the equation…

Instead, look for the WHY behind what happened as if you are looking at the situation as an outsider, a caring friend.

Think about what positive actions you might be able to make to support you to make choices that feel better for you next time. Use the opportunity to non judgmentally learn something about yourself.

Also…when it comes to those foods marketed as guilt free, don’t buy them. That’s marketing manipulation at its peak and in my view, needs no support.

All food including chocolate, ice cream and cookies doesn’t need to be considered a guilty pleasure, instead, a small part of a wider pattern of balanced eating if you choose to eat them.
