NEURODIVERSITY 50% of people in prisons are Neurodiverse and 75% of youth offenders are Neurodiverse or have traumatic brain injury. While these are stats from the UK, it is no doubt similar here in New Zealand.
MATCHA (concentrated green tea powder) has significantly more caffeine than green tea bags.
Green tea made with a bag has around 30mg
Matcha has around 20-40mg caffeine per gram and servings are normally 2-4g so can be between 40-176mg ish per serving
Black tea around 50mg
A single shot of coffee has around 145mg. It is recommended we limit our caffeine to 400mg/day, less if you have sleep issues or struggle with anxiety. For more on this check out the story following my interview on TVNZ Breakfast here.
LONELINESS is not something just experienced by the older generation, it is something affecting many kiwis, around 42% in fact. You can see people, be around people and still feel lonely if you are not really ‘connected’ to those people and feel like you have people in your life who really ‘get you’. Fostering relationships is a forgotten part of wellbeing.
HOT MESS! Surveys estimate that 10% of women leave the workforce during the peri- and post-menopausal phase due to symptoms affecting their quality of life. (Side note: this should NOT have to happen!!!!! )
POOP IT! Worried about eating nuts because they’re high in energy (calories)? This is your reminder that it’s not as simple as ‘calories in vs calories out’. Not all calories eaten are fully absorbed! When you eat whole nuts, it’s estimated that 20–30% of the calories come out the other end (Dr Sarah Berry).
SPEED MATTERS When you reduce the speed at which you eat by 20%, you reduce how much you eat by about 15% (Research by ZOE Science & Nutrition).
What have you learnt recently? I’d love to hear from you!
