Navigating stress and overwhelm

If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you are not alone! The world is noisy, busy and complicated, and quite frankly, there are just too many things to have to think about each day right?!

YOUR CHALLENGE:

This challenge is simple to ensure I don’t add to the overwhelm!

  • Choose ONE thing to help reduce the feeling of stress and overwhelm in your life this month. I have created a list of ideas below to choose from, or come up with your own.

  • Keep a notebook or journal by your side at all times this month and jot down things that keep going round in your head.

I encourage you to invite a colleague, friend, partner, flatmate, family member or someone in your life who you see regularly to do this challenge with you, to maximise the chance of change happening!

Reduce overwhelm

Try at least ONE of these things this month to help reduce the feeling of overwhelm in your life.

1. Digital Detox

  • Delete apps from your phone that distract you

  • Set app limits on your phone for social media or any other apps which encourage mindless scrolling

  • If you have a watch that is linked to your phone, turn only the urgent notifications on and then leave your phone in a drawer when you get home to reduce your likelihood of picking it up and checking your emails or mindlessly scrolling

2. Reduce noise and negativity

  • Limit your news consumption, e.g. only watch or listen to the news once a week rather than every morning/night

  • Drive or travel in silence without listening to music or a podcast

  • Get off the grid – go camping, hiking, or head to the beach to spend quality time in nature

3. Get organised

  • Set a date in your calendar to FINALLY sort the garage, kitchen or charity shop pile you have been putting off (but is always on your mind)

  • Get a planner or journal and start planning your meals and exercise for the week so you have one less thing to think about

  • Plan your weekly or monthly meals

4. Free up your time

  • Organise car sharing with friends to drop kids off and pick them up from at activities

  • Say no thanks to social events or activities that you normally say yes to or go to out of a feeling of obligation

  • Do online food shopping or order an online food subscription this month to take one thing off your to do list

5. Delegate tasks

  • If you have kids who are old enough, ask them to help with the cooking

  • Negotiate your household to-do-list to ensure everyone else is helping enough and you’re not carrying the whole load

  • If funds allow, perhaps book a gardener, cleaner or babysitter to give you some space this month

Good luck and enjoy!
